Terms & Conditions
Thank you for your interest in participating in First Light, a community floral exhibition presented by The Baker's Duck. These Terms & Conditions are designed to ensure a safe, enjoyable and cohesive exhibition for all participating artists and visitors.
1. Eligibility
Applications are open to florists, floral designers, artists and hobbyists.
Applicants must be able to create and deliver their artwork within the exhibition timeframe.
Both individuals and collaborative teams are welcome to apply.
2. Selection
A panel from The Baker's Duck will select approximately 5-7 artists.
Selection will be based on creativity, suitability to the exhibition theme and the overall balance of the exhibition.
Submission of an application does not guarantee selection.
The Baker's Duck reserves the right to curate the final exhibition and may select fewer artists if required.
3. Exhibition Theme
All artworks must respond to the 2026 exhibition theme:
First Light
Artists are encouraged to interpret the quiet beauty of a spring sunrise through colour, texture, movement and botanical materials.
4. Artwork Requirements
Works must use natural botanical materials. Fresh botanicals may be used if they will dry naturally and continue to present well throughout the exhibition period.
Artwork must be designed to remain suitable for display throughout the exhibition period.
Artwork should be approximately 1 metre x 1 metre when installed. Organic, irregular and sculptural forms are encouraged.
Artwork must be structurally sound and suitable for public display.
5. Installation
Artists are responsible for designing, creating and transporting their artwork.
Installation will take place during an allocated installation period prior to the exhibition opening.
The Baker’s Duck will manage the suspension and positioning of each artwork using fishing line.
The Baker’s Duck will determine the final hanging position, orientation, suspension height and number of suspension points.
6. Exhibition Period
The exhibition will be displayed at:

Professional photography of the exhibition (subject to availability).
Each selected artist will receive a $300 The Baker’s Duck voucher for taking part.
8. Photography & Promotion
By participating, artists grant The Baker's Duck permission to photograph and film their artwork for promotional, editorial and marketing purposes across print, digital and social media.
Copyright of the original artwork remains with the artist.
9. Artwork Care
The Baker's Duck will take reasonable care of all exhibited works while on display. However, artists acknowledge that dried botanical materials are delicate by nature and may naturally age over the exhibition period.
The Baker's Duck accepts no responsibility for accidental damage, deterioration, theft or loss.
10. Collection
Artists are responsible for collecting their artwork during the nominated collection period following the exhibition.
Artwork not collected within the agreed timeframe may be disposed of or donated unless prior arrangements have been made.
11. Exhibition Disclaimer
First Light is an independent community exhibition presented by The Baker's Duck. While it celebrates Toowoomba's floral season, it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers or associated festival events.
12. Right to Curate
To ensure the exhibition presents as one cohesive installation, The Baker's Duck reserves the right to request reasonable adjustments to artwork dimensions, hanging methods or presentation prior to installation. Any such requests will be discussed with the artist before installation.
If the finished artwork differs substantially from the concept submitted and selected through the application process, The Baker’s Duck reserves the right to decline installation or display of the artwork. Where an artwork is not accepted for display on this basis, the $300 Baker’s Duck voucher will not be provided.
